DIGITAL COMPETITION RULES

IMAGE SIZE
Up to four images may be entered in Fort Dearborn’s monthly digital
competitions.

IMAGE SIZE
Each image must have the following maximum size:
Horizontal side will be no more than 1024 pixels.
Vertical side will be no more than 768 pixels.
(Unless your image proportions are in the exact ratio of 4 to 3, one of these dimensions will be less than the maximum. The images will be projected as received, as long as not over the maximum.)

Other preferred settings (but not required):
color space – Adobe sRGB  

To check or change your color space in Photoshop, go under Edit - assign profile

FILE NAMING
Entry number (underscore) year (2 digits) (underscore) month (2 digits) (underscore) title of entry (period) extension   Total 36 characters maximum including spaces.
For example: 1_08_03_Red_Tulips.jpg

FORMAT 
Photos are to be saved as jpeg files with a quality of 9.

TEXT FILE
Along with the images, you will need to provide a text file with the following information. 
Date of Competition – Month and Year
Your Name
Your four entries listed as 1., 2 , 3., 4
with file name  Underneath the file name, write the corresponding image title

can fill out on your computer using Acrobat Reader.  You can download Acrobat Reader for free at adobe.com/.

TRANSMITTING YOUR ENTRIES

Place your images with your text file in a folder labeled with your last name 
Attach the folder in an email with the subject heading to read Fort D Month Year Competition (eg. Fort D March 2008 Competition) Send email to the following address:

JUDGING
Images shall be scored from 1 to 9 with the maximum total score of 27 possible. 20% of the scores, excluding make-ups, will be eligible for honors, based on highest scores. The standard “IN” and “OUT” voting method will be used after the initial scoring to determine those images that are in con-tention for ribbons. (Entries that receive in votes from two judges are considered with the images with three in votes.) Once the approximately 20% have been selected, the judges will select approximately one half for Honorable Mention, and one half for Award, again using “IN” and “OUT’ method. Finally, from the awards only, one image will be selected as Best of Show. 

AWARD WINNERS
Images that win awards and honorable mentions may be displayed on Fort Dearborn’s website under the awards category showcasing the monthly competitions. 

PERMISSIONS
By submitting images for competition to Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum, permission is granted to include these photos in monthly and annual competitions at Fort Dearborn and in interclub regional competitions. Permission is also granted for Fort Dearborn to use the images to promote the organization. Images might be used on Fort Dearborn’s website. Please indicate with your submission if you do not want your images to be used on Fort Dearborn’s website or on its promotional materials. 

OPTIONAL - ATTACHING DATA TO IMAGE FOR MAKER-IDENTIFICATION    IT IS RECOMMENDED TO EMBED FILE INFORMATION.
File information is listed in a separate area of the image (metadata). In Photoshop or Photo Elements, click on “ File” Then click on “File info”. When information window opens, fill in the form with basic information – name, contact information and copyright status.

TEMPLATE: All the basic file information can be preserved on a template, so that you do not have to fill out the form again and again. Once you have filled in your basic information under file info, click on the arrow at the top right of the page. Then choose Save Metadata template.
